Between the Harvest Festival and Luna's Birthday Party today, I saw four mamas that own one of my tie dye baby slings! It was a reminder to me how important they are and that I need to make another batch! I should have the next batch complete and for sale at "Sparkle", a "hand made for the holidays" event at Dandelion Communitea Cafe on December 11th. Come out and say hi!
There was a hardship in the family recently. My sister of 48 years passed away on November 5th after a 12 year battle with cancer. The family surrounded her with love and was able to be by her side until the last minute. We will have a "Celebration of Life" for her the beginning of December. She will be missed forever....

Wow! I have been so busy in the birth world lately that I haven't posted here! I had a stream of births and they were all very beautiful and peaceful. Not one unhappy birthing mama! I learned about placenta art and got to try my hand at it. It was very simple to do with a beautiful outcome! Maybe I will post a picture on here. It is fair time again and time to make a new batch of tie dye slings. A creative outlet I can always count on! With the holidays right around the corner, I am getting excited about all the gatherings that will be happening and the people I will get to connect with that I don't see as often as I would like to.

Exciting things are happening with the Central Florida Birth Network! We have changed our monthly gatherings to 'Round Table' type discussions on issues of importance to the local Birth Professionals. If you are a Birth Professional in the Central Florida area, visit the website for details and join us!
I have discontinued the regularly scheduled Dancing For Birth classes for now. I have other stuff on the horizon and need to focus on it for now. Private dance classes are available.
I have had a busy month of births and all beautiful outcomes! I'm waiting for someone now who is progressing very smoothly and gradually. She is due tomorrow and is almost 6 centimeters without having the first contraction! How many of you would have loved that!

I've just returned home from a Dancing For Birth Workshop in North Carolina and I'll soon be training to be an Instructor Trainer! What I love so much about the Dancing For Birth program is that it teaches all about Optimal Fetal Positioning, which is vital for a shorter, easier labor and delivery.
I am now teaching Dancing For Birth in two locations:
Thursdays at 6:30 at: Albright Beginnings Conference Room 401 Center Pointe Circle, Altamonte Springs, 32701 and
Every other Saturday at 12:30 at Shine On Yoga in downtown Orlando.
Watch for exciting news from the Central Florida Birth Network! We're planning to do a breastfeeding "flash mob" and we'll want everybody's participation, including "yours" and your family and friends! We want to make this really big!
My "sling partner", Michele P and I will be making another batch of tie dyed slings in August. Watch for pictures and a place on this website to order one.

Hello and happy spring! We asked for it and now we have it! I think the cold weather is finally finished! I taught a Dancing For Birth Workshop at Shine On Yoga and it worked out great. I am now going to be teaching it every other Saturday at 12:30, beginning May 1st. This is a prenatal/postpartum dance/exercise class but you don't actually have to be pregnant or postpartum to take it. It is world dance and is fun and a good workout for everyone.
As some of you know, my family is planning a trip to New Zealand. We are leaving late fall and coming home in April 2011. This is a trip my husband has wanted to take since our first date, 26 years ago! I guess he manisfested it!
I am available for birth and postpartum doula services, as well as childbirth preparation and private or group Dancing For Birth classes. Call or email anytime!

February 24, 2010 Hello! Wow! We sure have had our share of cold weather this winter! I'm headed to a camp out in the Ocala National Forest this week and we had to postpone it one day due to freezing weather! Ugh!! I will be teaching a Dancing For Birth workshop on March 27th at Shine On Yoga. You can learn more about Dancing For Birth at dancingforbirth.com. It is a great prenatal/postpartum dance exercise program. Very fun with dance moves from around the world. It is so important to move those hips to keep baby in a positive position for birth! There "is" an optimal position for birth, and it's not just head down!
If you're interested in a hospital birth and aren't sure where to go, check out Florida Hospital Altamonte Springs. They are in the process of certifying to become a Baby Friendly Hospital. They also have birthing stools, they allow you to eat and drink throughout labor, they use dopplers to check the baby's heart rate if you don't want to be stuck in the bed, and the practice that delivers there has two midwives! Very good news for Orlando moms! Of course, we do also have three birth centers and many homebirth midwives! This is a city with options!
Dandelion Communitea Cafe pot-lucks on the second Monday of each month! Join the Central Florida Birth Network for a vegetarian meal and meet some of the birth junkies in the area! Bring your family, friends, and neighbors. The potluck is a community gathering and a fun relaxed way to spend your Monday night. Bring a vegetarian dish to share and donate $3/person or $5/family.
ARCHIVES
January 2010
Happy New Year and thanks for visiting my site! This blog is updated on a regular basis, so please come back on a regular basis! You'll find information here about my childbirth and lactation services, Dancing For Birth classes, happenings in the central Florida community, and what I've been up to.
If you haven't been to the monthly pot-lucks at the Dandelion Communitea Cafe, you need to come! They are on the 2nd Monday each month at 7:00. Bring a vegetarian dish to share, and make a donation of $3/person or $5/family, and have a delicious meal with the community! This isn't just for the birthing community, but 'everyone'. The donation benefits the Central Florida Birth Network, which I am a part of. I've been reading a lot lately about posterior babies and how to encourage a baby into the anterior position, which is much more favorable for birth. Labor is so much shorter and smoother when baby is lined up properly! I've learned exercises and postures that are beneficial for helping. I hope to start teaching a Dancing For Birth workshop soon, probably on a monthly basis in the beginning, and then proceeding to weekly. These classes are great for lining baby up, limbering up for labor, and moms spirit! Lots of fun too! Send an email and get on my mailing list if this is something of interest to you. You can visit the National Dancing For Birth website at: www.dancingforbirth.com. If you want to be kept updated on what's happening with the Central Florida Birth Network, become a fan on facebook! If you are interested in one of my beautiful tie dyed baby slings, let me know. They're for sale for $30.

OCTOBER 2009
The Central Florida Birth Network had their annual birth fair, "Birth, Babies, and Beyond", and it was a great success! If you didn't make it, plan to next year! It'll be even bigger and better!
I have completed my certification to teach the Dancing For Birth prenatal and postpartum exercise program and hope to begin classes soon at Amaya Papaya in Casselberry. Keep watching for updates!
You can call or email me anytime! I love talking pregnancy and childbirth! www.birthingwithheart@gmail.com or 407-341-6718
MAY 2009
The Central Florida Birth Network participated in the Earth Day Celebration at Lake Eola, and now that the network allows members to sell their wares at the events we're represented at, Sadie and I decided to tie dye baby slings to sell. We sewed and dyed 20 slings and they turned out beautiful! We still have a few in stock, so if you want one, let me know and I'll get it to you. We also have a few for little girls, if you have a little mommy wanting to sling her baby! When Sadie was young, we used a scarf and she wore her babies everywhere, her kittens too!
Now that summer has quickly hit, I'm trying to think of ways to stay cool for the next three months. Wet n wild has a pay for a day, come back all year special and we may do that. Heading up north sounds like a great solution too, and we may do that in July. We're thinking about a trip through the mountains, camping at State Parks and enjoying playing in streams and rivers; maybe even white water rafting.
The Central Florida Birth Network will be a much more prominent name in the community than they have been in the past. We're going to start participating in local markets on a regular basis. Not only will we be getting the word out there about who we are, but we'll allow members to sell their wares, so you'll see a variety of cool things geared toward the family for sale. The date for our annual Birth Fair is September 26. Put it on your callendar and come learn more about local birth resources!
I don't currently have any childbirth classes in session but will soon. Contact me if you're looking for classes and I'll let you know when the next series begins.
I'm always up for questions and conversations about childbirth and lactation so call or email if want to talk! You can contact me at www.birthingwithheart@gmail.com or 407-341-6718
A sweet young lady named Ivy created this website for me. I think she did a great job! I do believe she's up for hire if anyone needs help on their site.
Enjoy your day! A favorite passage of mine this week is:
